Following received from Macao No. 118 of 13th May.

My telegram No. 114.

Hotung was here at the beginning of hostilities but returned to Hong Kong after the fall. He is now back here for about ten days. He says he received a good reception which cooled when he refused to join "Rehabiliation Comm or to make a statement flattering Japan as

Sir Robert Kotewall and Sir Shouson Chow have done in full measure. He [grp, undec: ? accused] these two of disloyalty whilst protesting his own loyalty and statements in the paper support his contentions. He has, nevertheless,

left his family in Hong Kong and is returning. He is most worried about his current account balance of dollars (Hong Kong) 1,100,000 in Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank.
